2008 Highgate, London N6
Modern glass conservatory extension to existing property in Highgate
designed by Malishev Wilson engineers together with exclusive
architect and contractor 800 group. Extension comprised of two
glass "boxes" linked by a specially designed structural
steel portal frame which provides stability in one direction.
Stability in the other direction, provided by the glass itself.
The extension has got few other innovations in its structural
design, one of which is the use of composite thermally broken
doors structurally to resist lateral load of the side elevation
as well as support of the heavy double glazed spandrel panels
above the doors. As a result, side elevations were built without
using any mullions at all, which contributes to its stunning appearance.
Also Malishev Wilson were instrumental in designing specially
concealed drainage details to minimize visual appearance.
